operating after suspension
Operating After Suspension differs greatly from Operating After Revoked.
driver's license suspension
Suspension of your operating privileges can occur as a result of many different actions. For instance, the court can order a suspension for 6 months after a drug related conviction. If you fail to pay tickets, your license may be suspended until you pay those tickets. Various other operating and non-operating ordinance violations can be accompanied with a brief suspension of driving privileges. Before taking a no contest or guilty plea to any charge, make sure you are aware whether or not that charge comes with any suspension of driving privileges.
penalties
The penalties for operating after suspension and operating after revocation differ. If cited for operating after suspension, you may be fined between $50 and $200. Operating after revocation, on the other hand, is a criminal offense.
suspension awareness
The best way to avoid these kinds of charges is to drive safely and responsibly. Always check with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) periodically to make sure there are no holds on your license that you do not know about. Suspension (and revocation) notices are sometimes lost in the mail. While lost notices can be a defense to the crime because you did not know your license was suspended (or revoked), do not count on that excuse when trying to get out of a situation when you are pulled over.
reinstatement
Reinstatement is an easy process that should be done as soon as you are eligible for your license. Do not delay getting your license back.
