Sentencing guidelines
Courts throughout Wisconsin maintain sentencing guidelines to be used to impose sentencing upon a person who has been found guilty of drunk driving, refusing to submit to a test if suspected of driving while under the influence, operating a motor vehicle after suspension, operating a motor vehicle after revocation and violating the prohibited alcohol concentration limits while driving in the state of Wisconsin.
However, courts can (and often do) impose harsher penalties than provided by the sentencing guidelines. So, the recommended guidelines set minimums, rather than maximums.
